Kayak Course on Clear CreekUndergraduate Programs

At CSM, the first-year courses are the same for all students.

The sophomore year courses are similar but not identical.

In several majors, you can choose a specialty, or in-depth concentration of courses.

For example, the Engineering Division has specialties in civil, electrical, environmental, and mechanical engineering; the Chemistry Department offers a specialty in environmental chemistry; and the Mathematical and Computer Sciences Department has a specialty in computer science.

A specialty has at least 21 credit-hours in a particular area, and most specialties require more.

In each program at CSM, you can develop a minor. A minor requires 18 credit-hours of courses and is often developed in another degree program.

For example, a chemical engineering student might minor in chemistry or metallurgical engineering. However, minors also are available in economics, humanities, computer science, environmental sciences and engineering, and other areas.

You should declare a major during your sophomore year.

A complete listing of upper-division courses and specialized programs is available from the CSM Admissions Office.

Using Colorado Lottery Funds

Golden constructed a kayak course on Clear Creek, which runs through downtown.

With excellent flows year-round and a quick five minutes from the campus, the course gives CSM students and kayak enthusiasts—the U.S. National Slalom Team has used the course for training—a chance to develop their skills.
