DR.
MICHAEL J. TARAVELLA
Dr. Michael J. Taravella earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a minor in
Chemical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 1977. He graduated from the
University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1981.
He is now Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Colorado Rocky
Mountain Lions Eye Institute.
Dr. Taravella is also Practice Director for the University Hospital Ophthalmology Clinic,
where he oversees the work of resident ophthalmologists. He is much in demand in his field
as a lecturer and writer.
Dr. Taravella is an active participant in worldwide humanitarian efforts. He earned a
fellowship in International Ophthalmology in 1986, participating in Project Orbis, where
he provided expertise to doctors on advanced techniques in eye surgery in Peru, Ecuador,
Costa Rica, Panama, Bulgaria and Spain. More recently, he has lectured in the Sudan,
Mynamar and Bulgaria.
